What is Mesotherapy, and how does it work?

At some point in life, most people will spend hours trawling the internet trying to find that magic potion to improve the appearance of their skin, hoping to achieve a beautiful, radiant glow.  There are lots of products available declaring you will see instant results, but they will come at a cost and are not guaranteed to work.

One of the most recent treatments that have become available is mesotherapy. Guaranteeing, you will see improvements, and help you to transform dull skin, to a brighter, youthful appearance.

Although needling treatments may sound scary and painful, they have become increasingly popular for many skin specialists and practitioners.

Within this article, we will explain what mesotherapy is and the benefits the treatment has to offer.

What is Mesotherapy?

Using superfine needles, you will receive injections to the mesodermal layer of skin.  The treatment will provide your skin with essential vitamins, amino acids and minerals.

Mesotherapy is far better for those issues that are present in the lower layer of your skin. These issues include anything from dehydration and advanced ageing, to puffy or saggy skin.

The mixture of the vitamins and minerals will help to rejuvenate and nourish your skin.  You will also benefit from the production of elastin and collagen, both of which are important for your skin’s elasticity.

What to expect during the procedure

Mesotherapy is a reasonably quick procedure, and should not take more than approximately thirty minutes.  You shouldn’t experience any pain. However, you may notice some slight discomfort.  You will be offered an anesthetic cream, especially if you let your consultant know you have sensitive skin.

The recovery period is minimal. Simply take some time to rest immediately after the treatment.  You may notice a little swelling and bruising, but it should improve very quickly, usually within a 24-hour period.

After the treatment, you will notice a change in your skin.  It will become more radiant, well-nourished, hydrated and firmer.  For more prominent results, you should take a course of between 6-8 sessions every two weeks.  Further maintenance is recommended 1-2 times a year.

What are the benefits?

Over time, skin can start to appear dull and tired, especially during times of stress and worry.

Mesotherapy will instantly improve these skin complaints, and will also help with sluggish blood circulation, which is not only great for the appearance of your skin but also for your body, flushing away those ageing toxins.

Mesotherapy is often used on people who suffer from pigmentation problems, as a treatment for acne scarring and can also be combined with other treatments being used for Botox or fillers to enhance the effects.

Are there any side effects?

Although unlikely, like any other cosmetic procedure, there is the risk of side effects.  These can include mild bruising, inflammation around the injected areas, swelling, and on very rare occasions, a reaction to the cocktail of vitamins.
