What’s the difference between cellulite and skin laxity?

Cellulite is a common problem, with 90% of women and 10% of men suffering from the skin complaint. Caused when the fibrous bands under your skin trap the fat cells and force them to protrude through the weakening connective tissue. The ‘orange peel’ texture and appearance is a natural occurrence, but is notoriously stubborn to shift. With cellulite having a huge impact on confidence, many aren’t comfortable revealing their bodies or wearing shorts, skirts or swimwear that show off their legs and thighs.

However, there are lots of suffers of cellulite that are using the wrong treatment to try and fix their problem, with some not even realising that what they’re experiencing isn’t actually cellulite.

How do you know if it’s cellulite?

Named the ‘pinch test’ by professional beauty experts, use your fingers to gently pinch around an inch of the skin from the affected area. When you release the skin, if the dimples disappear, then you have skin laxity, not cellulite.

Skin laxity is when gravity is pulling your skin down and creating folds that mimic the look of cellulite. This can be resolved by tightening the loose skin.

If some dimples remain, then you could have a combination of cellulite and skin laxity. In fact, the two tend to go hand-in-hand, as skin laxity and the loose skin it creates, can intensify cellulite and even make existing cellulite look more pronounced.

How do I treat my skin cellulite and skin laxity?

The Aesthetics Room offers cellulite treatment for only £150. The procedure involves a series of microinjections into the intended area with an ingredient known as Deoxycholic Acid. Deoxycholic acid breaks up the fat cells and dissolve them releasing the fibrous bonds.

For skin tightening, the team at The Aesthetics Room recommends its revolutionary, non-invasive body sculpting treatment. Available from just £299, the procedure uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy to contract the muscles hundreds of times, replicating the muscle building and toning usually only attained after hours of intensive exercise. The advanced technology can also breakdown stubborn lactic acid, so that the pain and cramping which fitness fanatics usually face after a heavy gym session, are eliminated.

With the equivalent of 20,000 squats from just half-an-hour of muscle sculpting, the treatment can be applied to troublesome areas, such as the buttocks, legs and thighs that tend to be more prone to skin laxity.
